What Makes Wrong Wrong?

December 15th 2009 -

Many Christians are still confused if white lies are also considered as a lie.  Well, as the name implies, literally, it is still a lie.  And lying is not a good thing.  Therefore, white lies are still sins.  If you are familiar with the saying “The Ends Does Not Justifies the Means”, this is very much applicable in making white lies.

Therefore, it is clear that lies, whatever color you put into it, does not make it unsinful.  But what really makes things right and wrong?  This is a question I had in my mind when I was still 6 years old. And I believe I have the answer on it now.  If there are standards of what is considered right and wrong, who made those standards?  They are just people who are also subject to confusion regarding what is right and what is wrong.  What is right to some could be wrong to someone else.

How can we really tell if things we are doing are right or if it is wrong?  The answer to this, I believe, is inside each of us.  If you think this thing is right, and you feel secured in yourself that there is nothing harmful to you in this decision you have made, then it may really be right.  But if this thing is bothering you inside or if it gives you some feeling of guilt, you will sense that it is wrong and not the right thing to do.  Later on, you will be sure that it is wrong because of the outcome.
