Elixir Ultra Lounge Bar Review
Elixir Ultra Lounge, located at the corner of 15th and Carson is one of South Side’s yuppiest bars. You will definitely find expensive drinks and guys referring to themselves as “daddy” throughout the night but if you can get through that you will definitely have a great time at Elixir.
Elixir is a two floor lounge with the downstairs having a few seats along the wall, the bathrooms and the bigger of the two bars. The bottom floor is more of a standing zone with guys chatting up how important their job is, all trying to impress the ladies with their made up titles.
Although the top floor has a much smaller bar, it is definitely a better time up there. To combat the small bar (we feel that) the better bartenders seem to work upstairs and get drinks into your hands more quickly than expected. In addition to the bar there is a small dance floor and couches/beds that line the right hand wall. The dance floor gets surprising packed for such a small space and it is overflowing with men who are all wearing way to much cologne. The scene here reminds me of a more drunken version of Bossa Nova where the men are acting as sharks, clamoring for any piece of female meat they can find.
Now to the important part . . . price. We are not going to beat around the bush; the drinks here are expensive. The prices are much more inline with prices in the Strip District than South Side, but to Elixir’s credit they do not have a cover any night of the week. Elixir does have a happy hour; I think something to the effect of $2 domestic bottles from 5-7 Monday-Friday.
Elixir isn’t a bad place to visit if you are out on a date, or to visit after a company party when the urge to down large volumes of Patron takes control of your brain. However if you are just out with your buddies drinking some iron and shooting whiskey stay away at all costs.
