Carson City Saloon Bar Review

Carson City Bar Saloon Carson City Saloon is located on the corner of 14th street in the South Side of Pittsburgh. The newly refurbished bar occupies the building of an old bank that was built in 1896. The joint is classic and clean; a spacious bar with moderate amenities and three levels. The top balcony overlooks the main floor and can be rented out for private parties. The middle level has a large bar that serves beer, shots and mixed drinks (crowd favorite: “call-a-cab”… but be ready to ante up $14 for the fruity blue concoction). Bathrooms and another private room can be found in the basement of the building.

The crowd is mostly preppy and relaxed, which explains why they can afford $14.00 pitchers of imported beer. This bar is a major attraction for those who grew up in Eastern Pittsburgh… which is no coincidence considering the four guys who opened it are from Murrysville, PA. There is a cover charge on weekends of $3.00, which can be well worth it if you get there early, grab a booth and post up your spot.

There is also a live DJ on Friday and Saturday nights, spinning music from atop a loft right over the entry of the saloon. One thing that differentiates Carson City from other bars on the south side is the beer pong room set up in the basement. There are two wooden beer pong tables (side by side) set up for the standard beer pong junkies. There is also a mini bar in this room, convenient for those who do not want to walk up a large flight of stairs to the main bar. This room can also be rented out for private parties until 11:00pm. It is also a good place to go to get away from the blaring music upstairs.

The bar serves food by day and transforms into a hang out at night. There is no dance floor and the drinks are not cheap, but if you are looking for a place to drink, socialize with people from the suburbs and play some pong, Carson City has just what you are looking for. Make sure you stop down for the Penguin games this season…they have an outstanding drink special plus draw a huge crowd even on the weeknight games.

Whoever said the DJ was good was clearly on crack. I can pretty much tell you what song is going to be on next and I rarely go there. They shouldn’t have a DJ, just a playlist of 80’s music that fraternity guys can sing as loud as they can.
