Dude, Where Should We Eat?

A few months ago one of my best friend from school, Flip, called me to tell me he was going to be in town to see his girlfriend and we had a pretty standard conversation.

Flip: Hey man what’s going on, I’ll be in town in this weekend what you up to?
Nick: Not much man, same shit how long you staying for?
Flip: Long enough to black out {Note: Both me and Flip have a special place in our heart for tequila, specifically Motezuma Blue}
Nick: Awesome, Saturday night it is, I think Pitt has a game so we’ll pre-game then go out on Carson St. I will give you a call Saturday night.
Flip: Hold on, I got one mission for you . . .get us a place to eat on Saturday night.

So we go out on that Saturday and have a pretty good time and end up at Dan-KaBobs for a chicken stuffed pita with moon sauce and then called it a night. I hadn’t thought to much about it until I was talking to another friend (a mutual friend of mine and Flip) and told his where we went and he was like

Scared: What kind of guy are you, taking him to that shit hole like that
Nick: C’mon dude that’s good shit, what would you rather eat at 2am

Scared: I don’t know Primanti’s, Pizza Vesuvio, dog shit, anything other than that.
Nick: Dude your an idiot, it’s not kobe beef but its good shit
Scared: Whatever dude, I got to go, email me next time you want to go out.
Nick: Alright man later.

It was this brief exchange that made me think, when in South Side, where is the best place to stop for food? In my mind there are four reasonable locations:

1. Pizza Del Sola – (The former Pizza Vesuvio)The pizza is awesome, the sauce is sweet, and the toppings are wholesome, but it lacks one key ingredient of late night food – grease. I know the grease is gross but when I’m shit faced the last thing I want is a ceasar fucking salad. Now I’m not bashing this pizza by any means, because it good, but for my money there are better places to eat at 2am.

2. Mike & Tony’s – Pacman Jones makes it rain, Chuck Norris kills people, and Mike & Tony make gyros. These things are money . . . a fresh warm pita with meat right off the spit, crisp iceberg lettuc, diced tomatoes, cucumber sauces, and seasoned French fries make this a thing of beauty.

3. Dan-Kabobs – This hidden treasure is located on to right next to Nakama and serves pitas stuffed with your choice of chicken or beef and covered in moon sauce. Now for the record I have no idea what is in moon sauce, I think there might be some teriyaki but I have no idea. Who cares what it is made of? Its delicious, and filling, the dude does not skimp of portions.

4. Primanti’s – Everyone knows about Primanti’s – coleslaw, meat, and cheese sandwiched in between fresh Italian bread. These sandwiches are huge and definitely will fill you up but take the longest to make.

So there it is, let us know who you think has the best late night food?
