McFadden’s Bar Review

McFaddens Bar ReviewMcFadden’s located on North Shore Drive is a newer bar and definitely a welcome addition to the North Shore bar scene. Happy hours, drink specials, and big rowdy crowds make this North Shore hot spot one of Pittsburgh’s top sports bars.

McFadden’s does have good food, I am a personal fan of their spinach artichoke dip and their nachos are nothing to scoff. Their meals are better than average but lets all be real here. . .people go to McFadden’s to drink. Normally the prices are pretty expensive ($4-$5 beers) but during certain sporting events have different specials. During select football games there are $2 Coors Lights which is almost like stealing to have a beer priced that low in a place like McFadden’s.

The bar at McFadden’s is HUGE, I’m not just talking big like “wow you can actually sit at the bar” big, I’m talking 25-30 yards long big. The oval bar is made of a nice wood (maybe oak, sorry I don’t know my lumbar) and has ample seating. If you are not lucky enough to find a seat at the bar there are more than enough random tables around to find a place to sit and eat your grub.

McFadden’s tends to attract a great crowd and based on location it’s not a surprise. Since it lies outside of PNC Park on the first base side of the park, there is heavy traffic from people going to Steelers and Bucco’s games. We were lucky enough to be visiting McFadden’s during a recent Steeler game and although they lost the game the atmosphere was great.

One aspect of McFadden’s that sometimes gets overlooked is there ability to host parties. Somehow there is always someone that one of the Pittsburgh After Workers know that has won a happy hour to McFadden’s. They work like this, small cover and domestic bottles and wells for $2 from 9-11. Additionally you can have a holiday party at McFadden’s, if interested you can find out more information here.

Overall I really do enjoy McFadden’s it’s a great spot and a decent Pittsburgh sports bar. High prices are a draw back but you get what you pay for and you get a great time.

PS: Not to convenient right now (due to weather) but check out the back patio that overlooks the river, nice view and who doesn’t like drinking by a body of water?

Been there twice….Not a big fan. Bar is WAY to big. I have been in warehouses that are more intimate than this place.
